Student Newspaper Articles
Some articles that were written as a reporter during my first year of university before becoming an Arts Editor in my second year. I had a specific interest in democracy and student protest.
[The Badger] The article can be found here: http://www.badgeronline.co.uk/sussex-students-join-the-anti-vodafone-campaign/ Or it can be accessed via attached file. This article was written in response to students joining the anti-Vodafone protests in Brighton due to a £6bn tax dodge. This particular article proved a challenge as I interviewed Allie Cannell, one of the students who were arrested at the protest, over the phone. I had to be extremely careful with what was printed as Cannell was going through court at the time and had to only print what was consented and not take it out of context. This piece was one of the more exhilarating to write.
[The Badger] The article can be found here: http://www.badgeronline.co.uk/students-occupy-lecture-hall-in-protest-of-increasing-tuition-fees/ Or accessed via attached file. This article was co-written with Ariel Cohen and followed a student occupation of a lecture hall at the University of Sussex regarding the privatisation of university education.
[The Badger] Article can be found here: http://www.badgeronline.co.uk/mp-shames-universities-charging-9000/ Or you can access it via attached file. This article was written to cover David Willetts MP and Aaron Porter (former President of NUS) denouncing the rise of university fees.
[The Badger] Article can be found here: http://www.badgeronline.co.uk/university-terms-could-be-2-weeks-longer-unless-students-vote-against-calendar-restructure/ Or accessed via attached file. This article was written for the Students' Union to encourage students to participate in a vote that could lengthen the study term.
[Issuu] Article can be found on page 7-8 here: http://issuu.com/thepulse/docs/pulse_2010_winter Co-written with Josie Carder, we wrote this article in response to the government cuts to art budgets.
